Is TIFER open to applicants from any country?

TIFER fellowships are open to applicants from any country, as long as they are non-residents undertaking tras-national mobility . Definition of trans-national mobility: At the time of the deadline for submission of proposals, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.

I am about to finish my PhD. Can I apply for a TIFER Fellowship?

You can apply as long as you hold your PhD at the moment of the start of the fellowshipor have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience (including the period of research training) after the degree which formally allowed them to embark on a doctorate.

Should a pdf file NIF, NIE or passport be attached to the application form?

No.

How many fellowships are available to offer in this call?

TIFER offers from 20 to 25 fellowships. However, TECNALIA could declare this call void because of:

  • lack of candidates
  • the submitted applications not meeting TIFER Programme´s requirements, expectations or aims

Is there a deadline for application?

The deadline for applying for the 2013 call is on the 30th November 2013.

Can I apply for more than one research field preparing  more than one project outline?

A candidate can apply for more than one strategic research field. Nonetheless, each project outline must be aligned with its corresponding research field.

Is there any template structure to write the research project or, instead, is a free decision of the applicant?

There is not a template structure to write the project outline. The format is free (minimum extension: 3 pages; maximum: 10 pages). In the website, you can find a brief description of the research field.

Besides, the project evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

  • Feasibility
  • Degree of originality or innovation of the project
  • Aligned with the strategic research fields

Does my application need to include contact details of professional references, and if so how many?

We recommend you to include some professional references in your application. There is not an specific number of required references. As specified in the Guide for Applicants, the candidate evaluation will be based, among other criteria, on awards and reference letters.

What is the expected length in pages of an application?

The documentation to be submitted is the following:

  • CV (Annexed in PDF):  It shall contain all relevant information about the training of the researcher, her/his professional experience and competence, research results as publications (i.e. ISI, position as author), projects (responsibility as project, task, or work package leader) and awards, etc. There is not a maximum or minimum extension.
  • Letter of interest (Annexed in PDF): There is not a maximum or minimum extension. The candidate must write a letter telling:
    1. His/her motivation to be part of the desired research team.
    2. His/her personal adequacy to the fellowship.
    3. The impact that it might suppose for his/her career and for TECNALIA.
  • Project outline (Annexed in PDF) description of the proposed research activities to be carried out during the fellowship. Minimum extension: 3 pages; maximum: 10 pages.

Is there any age limit for applying for a TIFER fellowship?

There is no age limit. Furthermore, Tecnalia guarantees non discriminatory treatment upon gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or political believe, social origin and economic condition in compliance with Spanish legislation and its own internal regulations in force. It is also committed to the Recommendations of the “European Charter for Researchers” and the “Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers”.

How are applications submitted?

Applications for the TIFER programme will be accepted through the online application system, which will be available on the TIFER website.

What research fields is TIFER focused on?

Candidates must frame their projects into one of the following research fields:

  • Robotics
  • Manufacturing
  • Food
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Health
  • Innovation
  • Computer science

Do researchers need to submit documentation certifying the fulfilment of the requirements of the call (e.g. PhD certificate, etc.)?

No, this documentation is not needed at the moment of submitting the application . Successful candidates will be required to present it prior to accepting the grant.

Can I simultaneously submit applications to TIFER and other Marie Curie programmes?

Yes, but if you are successful you will  have to choose one of them in case they overlap.

Is there an estimated date for the incorporation of successful candidates?

The estimated incorporation date for successful candidates would be the first trimester of 2014. 

Are there any details available on the salary and mobility allowance for these positions?

The fellows will sign a temporary job contract (24 months) and will benefit from employment conditions that meet the regional, national and European standards. This type of contract entitles fellows to full social security coverage. Earnings will be in line with the retribution salaries paid for co‐workers with similar experience and responsibilities. The payment will depend on the position, but an estimation would be a range between 32.000 and  50.000 €, including salary and mobility allowance.
